Let's be clear here - the book itself is good: clear explanations, good flow, well written basic genetics. Very useful for any undergrad or grad student in the field.
This Mastering Biology access is a complete waste of money. I wish I had gotten just the plain book without paying extra for this access. First of all, the interface is not user friendly. Everything takes forever to upload (and I have a REALLY good internet connection and a powerful processor in my computer!). If you try to open it on Safari, be prepared to be frustrated. Also, your access expires - not sure if after 2015 you'll be able to use your etext as a reference book. I was hoping I would always be able to have the electronic version handy on my tablet or computer (without being forced to be logged in) but you won't get the pdf version of the book or anything like that (and if I wanted to carry a heavy book around I wouldn't have purchased this version - and I already have the printed version)
So unless you're required to have access to Mastering Biology, I would not recommend buying this. It's a waste of money.
