Mosby's Textbook for Long-Term Care Nursing Assistants PDF

I see from the other reviewers that they heap praise on this textbook, but it is probably one of the most lacking, poorly written textbooks I have ever used. Although required to use it for the course I am taking, I found it a terrible slog. The writing is not at the 7th grade level, but maybe at the 7-year old level. There are spelling errors throughout, the syntax is atrocious, the sentence structure is halting and ripe with grammatical errors. The objectives for each chapter are cursory and do little to prepare you to learn anything. The tests provided with the teacher's package are more about bait-and-switch, "gotcha," and answer distractors that are muddy and meant more to trick than to effect any real learning - they certainly are not connected in any way to the objectives or any real learning goals. Obscure would best describe the crop of questions I have experienced.

I hope that there are other textbooks offered that can be used for Nursing Assistant training and preparation. The publisher, editor, and all those people listed at the beginning of the book (many with PhDs and other advanced degrees, and - believe it or not - many who are professors) obviously care little about the book being used as an effective training tool or are totally incapable of producing anything of much academic worth. I think there is a great need for someone with course development skills and education to take hold of this book in order to review and revise the entire thing.

I do not recommend this book for anything connected with academics. It might be useful for a leisurely scan, but that is the limit of my recommendation for reading.
