Group Counseling PDF

I'm currently in my last year in graduate school for Counseling (my concentration in School Counseling). We used Group Counseling: Strategies and Skills (7th ed) by Jacobs, Masson, Harvill, & Schimmel for our Group Counseling class. I must say that this is by far one of the best academic texts that I've read since being in higher education. This text is so easy to read. It's not bogged down in confusing terminology or boring writing. It's quite the opposite. The book is completely filled with practical and applicable examples. The writing is engaging and I never felt like it was a burden to read (and I'm your typical student who groans at "required chapter reading" for class discussion). The main learning objectives for each chapter is concise and each chapter is appropriately defined for easy quick reference. This is the one academic text I was forced to buy that I actually highly recommend buying for your own personal library. It's that good. Throughout my program study I consistently referred and referenced this book. It served as a great companion when I began my internships and leading my own groups. Highly recommended!

I recommend this book to anyone working with groups. This is a wealth of info for the novice group counselor but also great for as a refresher course for more seasoned counselors.
