The Research Methods Knowledge Base PDF

Trochim and Donnelly do an excellent job of explaining things concisely so that the reader doesn't spend forever trying to understand things. I'm not sure if this book alone would be perfect, but I would definitely want this book in conjunction with another book by Cozby (Methods in Behavioral Research). Together, these two books are seemingly everything a researcher must have for his research.

When I have to read this book, I cringe. I put it off until the very last second, and when I finally do, it is painful. I don't really know how this book has gotten such good reviews.

To be sure, the topic is rather dry. There are a lot of definitions, equations and theories to learn. I think most of the text describing these things is useless- I mainly use the book for its figures and definitions written into the margin. I find it irritating that there are a lot of editing mistakes. When I pay this much for a paperback book, I expect better quality! The most irritating thing I find about this book is how once something "difficult" is described, the author tells you to go meditate about the book or take a break. Or he'll make a paragraph-long discussion on why a t-test has a "T" in its name. I have enough work to do, I wish I didn't have to decipher what is important and what is the author's idea of a joke.

I know that we wont love all of our textbooks. But you know how there are some that just give you great information in a succinct manner while keeping it interesting? This is not it. For the record, I have an exam relating to the material from this book in a couple of hours. I am so irritated with reading it right now that I instead decided to write this review.
